Assets, Not Resources

At Between2Pines, we believe that people are assets, not resources. Resources are things like electricity, computers, software, all things with diminishing value over time or leveraged into providing value. Humans have innate value and create greater value when respected. Further, they force multiply when a diverse group of humans collaborate instead of allowing group think common to homogenous teams.

Jack Pines

Principal Consultant & Co-founder

With over 20 years of experience in software development — from reporting front-ends to large-scale streaming data systems — Jack brings deep technical expertise and an unwavering commitment to mentorship.

Between2Pines Consulting is his response to an industry in flux: a world where seasoned engineers are pushed into contracting as Big Tech downsizes, and where new grads are entering a market increasingly shaped by automation and AI.

Rather than compete or retreat, Jack is building a space where experience and empathy meet. His mission is to lift others up — to mentor, to empower, and to show that people are not just resources, but assets with lasting value.

Jared Pines

Consultant-in-Residence & Co-founder

Jared is the pilot member of our mentorship program — and a clear success story. He earned his B.A. in Computer Science from the University of Washington Tacoma just as the world was emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic. Like many early-career engineers, he found himself competing against peers who had already been hired into Big Tech and then laid off, flooding the market for entry-level roles that now demanded two or more years of experience.

Rather than let the system define his path, Jared joined Between2Pines as our first Consultant-in-Residence. He’s since gained hands-on experience with PySpark, Databricks, Snowflake, and the full software development lifecycle — delivering real work on real projects for real clients.

Jared’s progress is proof that our model works. He continues to grow as both an engineer and a team member, and we’re excited to see him help mentor the next cohort of consultants.
